AI Feedback in Metronaut gives you real-time visual feedback on your playing and enables performance evaluation, scoring and experience points (XP). It works with Sight-read, the practice mode and Interpret (AI Tempo) where those modes are supported.
Feedback helps you notice pitch precision and rhythmic placement while you play, so you can identify passages to work on. It also works with acoustic piano: a connected MIDI instrument is not required if you use supported microphone input.
🎯 Use feedback with Sight-read for sight-reading and focusing on pitch at your own pace.
🥁 Use feedback with Practice to work on both pitch and rhythm at your chosen playback speed.
Turn AI Feedback on or off
- Open a piece. Choose how you want to practice in Modes.
- Use the separate AI Feedback button in the main score toolbar to turn feedback on or off. Its icon is filled when the setting is on.
- Allow microphone access if requested, or connect a compatible MIDI instrument.
- Press Play (▶) and play or sing your part.
The setting is on by default starting with Metronaut 9, for new and returning users. You can turn it off, and your choice is saved. You do not need to open Tempo to change it.
Is feedback a separate practice mode?
No. Your selected mode controls how Metronaut responds to your playing; feedback controls the visual feedback and evaluation. For example, choose Practice with feedback to practice pitch and rhythm at a selected speed, or Sight-read with feedback to work through notes and chords without track audio.
You can also use feedback with Interpret (AI Tempo) in the native apps while exploring phrasing and expression. Turning feedback on does not turn that mode into one that waits for every correct note.
What about pitch, rhythm and XP?
Feedback shows information about pitch and rhythmic placement while you play and enables scoring and XP. Use it to decide which passages to revisit, rather than treating a score as a substitute for listening to your musical phrasing and expression.
To understand how XP relates to progress and leaderboards, see Leagues, Streaks and Ranks.
What happens in Listen?
Listening does not evaluate your playing or record a performance. If feedback was already enabled, its button can remain on while you listen, but feedback is temporarily inactive. It becomes active again when you return to a supported practice mode.
If feedback is off and you turn it on while Listen is selected, Metronaut switches to the practice mode so you can play with feedback.
Where did the feedback control move?
Earlier instructions placed the switch in Tempo. In the current standard practice interface, use the independent AI Feedback button in the main score toolbar. Mode selection is in Modes.
Why is feedback not responding to my playing?
Check that feedback is on, playback has started, and you are not in Listen. Metronaut must receive your instrument or voice through a microphone or MIDI connection. If it does not, follow the microphone and MIDI troubleshooting guide.
Platform and input capabilities determine which modes and input methods are available. A listening-only preview does not provide performance feedback even if the saved feedback setting appears on.
