Many pieces in Metronaut offer different versions by difficulty, arrangement or accompaniment type, such as piano or orchestra. When hand versions are available for a piano piece, you can also choose the left hand, right hand or both hands.
When you first open a piece, Metronaut tries to select a suitable version. Check the version information displayed with the score to see which one you are practicing.
Choose a different arrangement, level or accompaniment
- Open the piece and tap Change version > near its title and version information, when available.
- Open the available versions and select the one you want. You can also find version options through Tools where offered.
- Check the updated score and version information before you play.
The available choices depend on the piece. See difficulty and catalog filters for help finding a suitable starting point.
Choose piano hands in Modes
- Open Modes in the score toolbar.
- Select Sight-read, the practice mode or Interpret (AI Tempo), where available.
- If the piece offers hand versions, use the hands selector below the selected mode to choose the left hand, right hand or both hands.
- Check the selected hand and press Play (▶) when ready.
The hands selector changes the version you practice. It is not shown for every piano piece, and it is not shown inside Listen. You can choose a hand in a practice mode and then switch to listening.
When you select one hand, the part for the hand you are not playing is grayed out on the sheet music, so you can clearly see which part to practice.
Is choosing a hand the same as muting a track?
No. Hand selection chooses which part you practice. The speaker icons in the listening and practice modes decide which available recordings you hear.
For a solo piano arrangement with separate hand recordings, the audio controls may let you hear either hand. If a piano version has an orchestral or other separate accompaniment, that accompaniment keeps its own identity: it is not simply the opposite hand. The labels and tracks reflect the selected version.
