Set the tempo in Metronaut to slow down or speed up your accompaniment. Choose Fixed mode to practice at the speed you select.
Note: For pieces that come with playalongs, the playback tempo corresponds to the human recorded accompaniment tempo, and not a fixed score tempo.
Change the tempo and select Fixed mode
- Open a piece and tap or click Tempo in the score toolbar.
- Under Metronaut’s reaction, choose Fixed.
- Move the tempo slider to choose your practice speed.
- Close the panel and press Play.
You can also use the tempo slider directly in the score toolbar. Open Tempo to turn the Metronome on or off.
What does Fixed mode do?
Fixed plays the accompaniment at your selected tempo without adapting to your performance. It is useful when you want to play along at a chosen speed, for example while working through a difficult passage.
Can I use AI Feedback with Fixed mode?
Yes. Turn on AI Feedback in the Tempo panel to enable visual feedback and scoring/XP while using Fixed. Feedback does not change Fixed into a mode that follows your tempo.
How do I make the accompaniment follow my playing?
Choose Tempo AI in the iOS, Android or Mac app. Older instructions may call the tempo-following feature Smart Mode. The current control is Tempo AI.
To move through the notes without accompaniment, choose Wait.

Yes but in the song you can’t change the tempo dynamic on the “fix tempo”. So it difficult to play it slowly and at one tempo throughout the whole song with out the tempo changing. Even if you put the overall speed to 50%
